Free health check event to take place in Newham

People are being invited to check on their health and wellbeing and catch up on vaccinations at an event in Newham on Friday (5 May) from 8am to 5pm.

Woodgrange Medical Practice in Forest Gate is hosting a Make Every Contact Count event, which will offer a range of health services and highlight the benefits of social prescribing.

Anyone will be able to drop by and have their blood pressure checked, undergo cervical cancer screening or have a Covid-19 vaccine (first, second or booster jabs depending on eligibility). Local pharmacists will also be offering help and advice to people who are looking to stop smoking.

Representatives from the Live Well Newham Outreach Team will also be on hand to explain more about their local weight management and nutrition programmes. This will include ‘Sugar Smart’ dietary advice and handing out free Vitamin D supplements to over-65s.

The event is open to everyone – you do not need to be at patient at Woodgrange Medical Practice – but anyone wishing to register with the surgery will be able to do so on the day.

Dr Muhammad Naqvi, GP partner at Woodgrange Medical Practice, said:

“Having regular health checks can help diagnose conditions at an earlier stage and make them easier to treat so we’re always looking at ways we can make these more accessible. “Additionally, making small lifestyle changes can help you lead a healthier life so we’re hoping as many people as possible come along on Friday – a few minutes spent talking to a healthcare professional or having a quick test could end up having major benefits for your health.”
