Connor Todd from Chingford wins West Ham vaccination competition

“It has been a weight off my mind” – 21 year old winner on why he got the Covid vaccine.

As part of West Ham United’s support to the NHS across east London, in July the club offered everyone who had had the Covid-19 vaccine in north east London the chance to win a new 2021/22 Umbro Home Kit shirt, signed by the squad.

To win the signed shirt you had to have had a COVID-19 vaccine and post a picture or message to Twitter saying you had had your jab. The winner was then selected at random from the tweets.

The competition was won by Connor Todd from Chingford. Connor is 21 and has been a West Ham fan his whole life. Connor’s all-time favourite West Ham legend is Bobby Moore and is hoping for another top six finish this season and a good run in the Europa League.

Connor said: “I got vaccinated quite early as I was working as a porter at UCL hospital and it has been a weight off my mind knowing I’m protected from Covid. I’d recommend everyone gets vaccinated to help the country get back to normal.”

Covid-19 affects everyone. People of all ages are being treated in critical care for the virus or struggling with long-Covid. Don’t let that be you. Book your vaccine online, or go to one of the local walk-in centres near you, no appointment needed.

Join your family, friends and the millions of people in the UK who have already had their vaccine. The more people who are vaccinated, the safer we all are, as getting the vaccine yourself helps others who are more at risk of Covid, even if they’ve also had the jab.

Not only does the vaccine protect you against the virus but people who are fully vaccinated (had both doses in the UK at least 14 days before close contact and you will need to take a PCR test) do not need to self-isolate after close contact with someone who has Covid so you won’t miss out on work, going to events or going on holiday.

If you are aged 18 or over, you do not need to wait to be invited for a vaccine, you can book online at a time and location that works for you or simply walk in. To find out where and how to get a vaccine, visit the North East London Health and Care partnership website for information about the 50 vaccination centres across north east London or use the National Booking System.

People aged 16-17 can also now get a Covid-19 vaccine. You can walk into the vaccination centres listed here without an appointment (no need to book, just turn up) and get your Pfizer jab now.
