Benches in London Fields in memorial to public servants who have lost their lives to COVID-19

Two memorial benches to commemorate Hackney public servants who lost their lives in the pandemic can now be visited in London Fields Park.

The benches were unveiled in March, one year on from the pandemic. One of the benches commemorates two council staff members, Les Howard and Paramjit Singh Bharmi who lost their lives to COVID-19. The unveiling ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Hackney, Philip Glanville, Hackney Council Speaker, Cllr Kam Adams, and the families and colleagues of Les and Paramjit who sadly died.

Since the benches have been installed, members of the public and public servants regularly leave flowers on the bench to pay their respects.
