How to access your GP

There are a number of ways you can get in touch with your GP practice from the comfort of your own home.

Most GP practices now offer online consultation forms, video and telephone consultations to help you get the care you need quickly without having to call or visit the surgery.

Booking appointments

GP appointments are available seven days a week in north east London, including in the evening, on weekends and on bank holidays.

You can book appointments with your GP practice online via their website or using the NHS app. If you can’t get online you can call your practice.

If you need to book an urgent appointment when your practice is closed, such as in the evenings or on weekends, you need to call NHS 111. They will be able to book an appointment with a local GP. This could be at your surgery or at another NHS service nearby.

Using the NHS App

The NHS App is a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet.

You can use the NHS app to get in contact with your GP practice, book appointments, view past and upcoming appointments and view your patient record.

You can also see your available medicines, request a new repeat prescription and choose a pharmacy for your prescriptions to be sent to.

Online, video and telephone consultations

You can visit your GP practice website and complete a simple online form to let a GP know about any symptoms you’re having, to ask a question, or to follow up about something with your doctor. It’s convenient and secure.

Once you’ve answered the questions in the online form, you will usually get a text or email confirmation and the expected response time. Meanwhile your medical team will then help you get the right care, whether it be a face-to-face appointment, a phone or a video call or by sending a text or online message.

If you need to be seen face-to-face your GP team will arrange an appointment for you.
