About this service​

Stopping smoking is the single biggest change you can make to improve your health. Smoking is the leading cause of preventable illness and premature death worldwide. 

But we know it can be hard to quit smoking. There are lots of services across north east London which can help you kick the habit.

Hospitals also offer patients stop smoking services and can link in with the providers below. You can also speak to your GP.

Barking and Dagenham

The Stop Smoking service can provide Barking and Dagenham residents with free advice and support to quit.

The service offers:  

  • Weekly Nicotine Replacement Therapy or vape
  • Behavioural support to help you to quit
  • Telephone or digital support

City of London and Hackney

Smokefree City & Hackney is the local stop smoking service for adults and children (12+ years) who live, work, study or have a GP in Hackney or in the City of London. 

They offer 12 weeks of support to help you quit, with your own dedicated stop smoking advisor and easy access to stop smoking medication. You can choose to be supported over the phone or in person.

Newham

Quit Well Newham can provide Newham residents with free advice and support to quit.

The service is open Monday to Friday 8.30am until 5.30pm. Group sessions (6pm-7pm) can be arranged by appointment only .

The service offers:  

  • Direct support and quit plan from a trained practitioner for up to 12 weeks
  • Weekly Nicotine Replacement Therapy and Electronic Cigarettes
  • Telephone or digital support with free access to the Smoke Free app
  • Face-to-face support available at a location near you 
  • Support is available in English, Bengali, Urdu, Gujrati and Lithuanian. BSL Support is also available

The service is run by Queen Mary University of London.

You can also get support from local pharmacies near you. 

Redbridge

Redbridge Quits Smoking offers a free and confidential support for anyone living, working, or studying in Redbridge, aged 12 and above.

  • People who smoke cigarettes
  • People who smoke paan, betel quid, gutkha, bidi, and shisha
  • People who are concerned about their use of vapes or e-cigarettes.

Tower Hamlets

Quit Right Tower Hamlets provide stop smoking services for people who live, work or study in Tower Hamlets.

A full range of free nicotine replacement products likes patches, gums and E-cigs are available to help you quit for good.

Waltham Forest

QuitRight, funded by Waltham Forest Council, is a service provided by Queen Mary University of London for smokers and smokeless tobacco users who wish to quit. It includes:

  • A 12-week plan with support from a trained practitioner
  • Free Nicotine Replacement Therapy and free e-cigarettes
  • Telephone and/or digital support. Face-to-face help may also be available.

A translation service is available.

QuitRight host drop-in and phone clinics in Waltham Forest at the following places and times:

  • Queens Road Family Hub: Thursdays, 1pm to 5pm 
  • Leytonstone Family Hub: Wednesdays, 10.30am to 1.30pm 
  • Walthamstow Family Hub: Tuesdays, 9am to 12.30pm
  • Chingford Family Hub: Tuesdays, 2pm to 4pm
  • Telephone clinics: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays (5 to 7pm), Fridays (5 to 6pm)
