About this service

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is for people living with chronic lung diseases who are limited by symptoms such as breathlessness. It is a programme of individually prescribed exercise and education to support long term behaviour change and self-management.

The aim of pulmonary rehabilitation is to make it easier for someone to do their activities of daily living and reduce symptom burden.

What are the benefits of attending Pulmonary rehabilitation?

  • Improvement in symptoms – breathlessness
  • Improved exercise tolerance
  • Improved ability to do activities of daily living.
  • Improved self-management.
  • Improved health related quality of life
  • Reduced risk of admission to hospital and readmission if you are admitted.
  • Reduce length of stay if admitted into hospital.
  • Reduced risk of mortality

The benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation last beyond the completion of the programme, evidence has suggested that they can last for over 12 months, even longer if you continue to exercise.
