Most people with COVID-19 feel better within a few days or weeks of experiencing their first symptoms and make a full recovery within a few months. Unfortunately for some people, the symptoms of COVID-19 can last longer.
Long COVID services are there to support people who have been experiencing ongoing symptoms of COVID-19 for more than 12 weeks. The most common symptoms of long COVID are:
If you are concerned that you may have long COVID, or you you are taking a long time to recover, speak to your GP.
Your GP will discuss your symptoms with you in more detail. They will take your blood pressure, check your pulse rate, listen to your chest and check your oxygen levels.
You may be asked to have a blood test and may also be sent for other investigations such as a chest x-ray or heart scan before being referred to a long COVID service.
If you are concerned that you may have Long COVID, speak to your GP first. They can assess you and if they believe you may have long COVID, they can refer you to the long COVID service for support.
