About this service

Cardiac rehabilitation, or cardiac rehab, is a programme of support to help you recover after a heart attack, heart surgery or following a diagnosis such as heart failure.

Cardiac rehab programmes often last between 6 to 12 weeks. They can help you with:

  • understanding how to manage your heart condition
  • information about taking medicines and other practice advice
  • physical activities to gradually build your strength
  • making changes to your lifestyle to improve your heart health such as quitting smoking, eating more healthily, reducing stress and being more active
  • building your confidence so you can get back to living as full a life as possible
  • managing or improving your mental health and wellbeing
  • returning to work after your diagnosis or heart surgery
