St James Medical Practice – update on temporary relocation

NHS North East London is working closely with local partners to support St James Medical Practice in Walthamstow as it relocates to temporary premises.

St James Medical Centre will provide services from The Firs Medical Centre, 26 Stephenson Road, London E17 7JT and Forest Road Medical Centre, 354-358 Forest Road, London E17 5JL until the completion of the Jazz Yard, which is being fitted out for the Practice to move into.

Dr Kawar, GP Partner, St James Medical Centre, said:

“We are committed to ensuring continuity of care for our patients who rely on us to help with all their healthcare needs. We had hoped that we would move directly to the Jazz Yard and understand that this temporary move is disruptive but we can assure that you while we might be changing our location – our team, our care and our practice will continue to provide the quality care our patients expect.”

St James Medical Centre will move to The Firs and Forest Road from Wednesday 16 October and the current site at 47 St James Street will remain open as usual until 15 October 2024.

All practice patients have been written to and informed about the changes. Any patients with existing appointments booked for after 15 October will be notified by text message on where their appointment will take place. Patients have also been invited to engagement sessions (face-to-face and online) to have their questions answered about the temporary relocation.

The practice will relocate to their new purpose-built home at the Jazz Yard development currently scheduled for completion in early 2026. Patients will be kept informed on this new development and the time frame for the move once this has been agreed.

Johanna Moss, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer for NHS North East London, said:

“Our priority is ensuring that all patients registered at St James Medical Practice have ongoing access to primary care services.

“We understand that uncertainty over the move has led to concerns among patients, but we are committed to supporting the practice, including providing resilience funding, to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum and that patients have continuity of care.

“Along with local partners, including Waltham Forest Council and neighbouring GP surgeries, we will continue to support St James Medical Practice while we look forward to the completion of the new Jazz Yard development in Walthamstow.”
