Last Saturday, 29 January marked one year anniversary of the first local vaccination site opened in Barking. The site was first located in Broadway Theatre and then moved to Vicarage Field Shopping Centre. Both sites have been led by the local GP Federation Together First. The anniversary is a good occasion to look at some of the vaccination data and highlights from the past year:
Overall, in 2021 there were 97,209 vaccines administered at the site. Within that:
- 1789 people in their own home, one of the pharmacists did 653 of them!
- 1053 people in a care home, the same pharmacist did 490 of them.
- 570 people with no fixed address or in another homeless category.
- 77,709 people from Barking & Dagenham, 8313 people from Redbridge, 3438 from Havering, and 2965 from Newham.
- Within Barking and Dagenham, there were 12,430 vaccinations given to the people of Abbey ward, 9101 to Gascoigne, 9074 to Longbridge and 8850 to Thames.
- There were over 4000 people on learning disabilities and severe mental illness registers vaccinated.
Barking local vaccination site highlights:
- The oldest vaccinated person onsite was 108 years of age, the youngest came in on her 12th birthday.
- The closest home address to site was under 30 metres, the furthest was 565km (351 miles). Average home to site was 4.6km, median 2.4km
- 47.25% of doses given were to people the most deprived fifth of England (IMD deciles 1 & 2). 86.08% given to people in the most deprived two fifths of England (IMD deciles 1-4)
Craig Nikolic, Chief Operating Officer of the Together First GP Federation said: “Vaccination is just one aspect of our GP Federation. We also provide evening and weekend GP appointments, as well as other clinical and support services for the people of the borough, all of which we’ve kept delivering throughout the last two years of COVID.”
