North east London patients to benefit from funding to expand GP surgeries

Work to modernise and expand several GP surgeries in north east London has been given the green light, thanks to over £3.3 million worth of funding from the Department of Health and Social Care.

The investment, which is part of the NHS Primary Care Utilisation and Modernisation Fund, will allow several practices and primary care networks across north east London to expand within their existing premises.

As a result, almost 150,000 more appointments will be available to patients across north east London each year, provided in a more comfortable environment.

Projects will include refurbishing and reconfiguring existing spaces to create new consultation and treatment rooms, making better use of space so patients can be seen faster.

Work on the improvements is expected to be completed by the end of this year and will help the practices to operate in a more efficient way, while providing more modern surroundings for both patients and staff.

The list of schemes includes:

  • Kenwood Medical Centre in Ilford – Refurbishment of ground and first floors to accommodate relocation of up to two additional GP practices onto the site, creating 38,500 additional appointments a year.
  • Loxford Polyclinic in Ilford – Refurbishment to create eight new clinical rooms and 22,000 additional appointments a year.
  • Harold Wood Polyclinic in Harold Wood – Refurbishment to create three new clinical rooms and 16,500 additional appointments a year.
