New carers action plan in Tower Hamlets

Unpaid carers play an important role in society and make a huge contribution to health and social care and the wider community.

This year, Carers Rights Day is on Thursday 21 November 2024. This is an annual event in the UK dedicated to raising awareness of the rights and needs of unpaid carers, ensuring they know how to access support and resources. This year, the theme is “recognising your rights.” The national campaign highlights the often-overlooked challenges carers face, working tirelessly to support their loved ones while balancing their own needs and wellbeing. Recognising their rights is essential to ensuring they receive the support so they can continue in their caring role.

Working as part of the Tower Hamlets Together partnership, we have worked in collaboration with local health and care organisations to set out our commitments to unpaid carers rights. Our partners include Carers Centre Tower Hamlets, Barts NHS Health Trust, East London Foundation Trust and the GP Care Group.

Our Commitment to Carers 2024-27’ is our joint action plan, co-designed with unpaid carers. It outlines how those who provide unpaid care to residents in Tower Hamlets will be supported over the next three years. The action plan identifies a number of priorities which we will work together as a partnership to deliver, with the support of Carers Centre Tower Hamlets who will deliver our Unpaid Carers Service for adult carers.

Together we want to identify and recognise more carers in our communities, support them to have a life outside of caring, enable them to realise their potential, improve their health and wellbeing and strengthen the transition of young carers into adulthood.
