Made in Hackney free community cooking courses

Made in Hackney is hosting free cooking courses starting in November 2022 in Upper Clapton. All sessions will use healthy, plant-based ingredients aimed at supporting health and wellbeing and the cost of living crisis.  Some are open to Hackney residents only, while others are for everyone. Please use this form to register for all classes.

Hackney residents
I. Cooking on a budget (5 weeks), Thursdays 6-8pm (10 Nov-8 Dec 2022)

Learn how to shop for and make some healthy, low cost and tasty plant-based recipes with cooking teacher and chef Mark Breen. Sessions will also cover shopping in the local area, menu planning, energy-saving tips and budgeting.  All ingredients are provided and dinner will be eaten at the class.

II. Cooking on a Budget, (6 weeks ONLINE)

Join teacher and nutritionist Sharon Gardner for six relaxed online sessions learning how to cook a range of healthy low-cost dishes to support wellbeing. To join a class, please use a smartphone or computer with good Internet connectionZoom details, ingredients and equipment needed will be informed in advance of the session.

Beginners and children welcome. Do sign up to collect the vegetable ingredients from the cookery school in Upper Clapton, including some extras, all supplied by local surplus organisation Streetbox!

III. Cooking for Type 2 Diabetes (6 weeks), Mondays 6-8pm (7 Nov-12 Dec 2022)
(open to all with priority given to new participants)

Experienced cookery teachers Sharon and Hannah will show how to cook a range of diabetic-friendly dishes that are affordable and packed with flavour. The sessions will be fun, relaxed and supportive with beginners welcome. All ingredients are provided and dinner will be eaten at the class.
