Homerton Hospital will formally change its name on Friday 1 April 2022. The new name will be Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, which was agreed upon in a staff poll.
Homerton’s current formal name is Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which has existed since it became the first of 10 foundation trusts to be set up within the health service in April 2004. Even with the integration of City and Hackney’s community services and the trust’s hospital acute services in 2011, the name did not change.
The new title for the Hackney hospital is to mark the new Integrated Care System for north east London that took effect in 2021.
Among Trust members, 51% voted in favour of a name change with the Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust title coming in first place among others listed.
