Homerton Chief Nurse receives MBE for nursing leadership

Homerton University Hospital’s Chief Nurse was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to nursing leadership. Catherine Pelley, who is also the Director of Governance, attended the ceremony at Windsor Castle on Thursday, 24 February 2022.

Pelley has worked with the NHS for over 35 years in various roles: caring for the elderly, conducting health visits, working as part of a neighbourhood nursing team and working with families affected by drug and alcohol issues. She has served as a Service Commissioner in Brent and Harrow and later as a Director of Commissioning in Hertfordshire.

In addition to her MBE, Pelley was given the honour of becoming a Queen’s Nurse in 2021. She is also a recipient of the Cavell Star Award, a national award given to nurses, midwives, nursing associates and healthcare assistants who exhibit extraordinary exceptional care to their colleagues, patients and patients’ families.
