If you are experiencing problems with your periods, it is important to speak to a health professional as soon as possible to investigate the cause or to rule out an underlying health condition.

Getting help with your periods

Talk to your GP about your bleeding, and how it is affecting your life. Before you meet with your doctor, it can be useful to keep a diary of your symptoms throughout your menstrual cycle to give them a clear picture of what you are experiencing.

We understand this may be a difficult subject for some people to talk about, but speaking with a professional can ensure you get the help you need to reduce the impact your periods have on your life and wellbeing.

Your GP can:

  • Examine you and refer you for tests to investigate the problems
  • Prescribe medications which can alleviate your symptoms
  • Refer you to see a specialist if you need to for further treatment
  • Refer you to one of our Women’s Health Hubs for support.
